Caring for Your Cast Iron Cookware

At Skeppshult, we believe proper care is essential to maintain the quality and longevity of your cast iron cookware. By following these simple guidelines, you can ensure that your Skeppshult pan remains in excellent condition for years to come.

Protecting Your Skeppshult Investment

To prolong the life of your Skeppshult cookware, it’s important to avoid certain practices. Do not use metal utensils that may scratch the surface, and avoid cutting directly in the pan to prevent damage. Additionally, always store your pan in a dry place to prevent moisture buildup, which can lead to rust formation.

Daily Cleaning for Lasting Brilliance

For daily cleaning, use a dedicated brush and warm water without any detergent while the pan is still hot. Avoid placing your Skeppshult pan in the dishwasher, as the harsh detergents and high temperatures can damage the seasoned surface. After cleaning, ensure the pan is completely dry. A recommended method for drying is to heat the pan on the stove. This gentle heating helps to evaporate any remaining moisture, preventing the formation of rust and maintaining the pan’s pristine condition.

Seasoning for Optimal Performance

To season the pan, add a thin layer of canola oil to the dry surface. Heat the pan to a high temperature, either on the stove or in the oven, depending on the handle type. Please note that a wooden handle cannot be used in the oven. Allow the pan to heat for approximately 10-15 minutes until the oil stops smoking. This process will restore the seasoned coating, leaving the pan black and ready for use.

Deep Cleaning for Restoration

If the surface of your frying pan appears brown or damaged, it may be time for a deep cleaning to restore its original luster. Begin by filling the inside of the pan with coarse salt and a small amount of water. Heat the pan at a high temperature for 1-2 minutes until all the water has evaporated. Rinse away the salt and wipe the pan with a paper towel. This process will leave the pan with a grey tint, indicating that it is ready to be seasoned again.
