About the Brand

Where is Skeppshult cast iron cookware made?

Every cast iron piece is made by hand in our own factory in Skeppshult, a small village in Småland, Southern Sweden—right where it all began in 1906. We do everything in-house: pouring, finishing, seasoning, inspecting. No outsourcing. No mass production. Just real craftsmanship, forged in tradition.

Why are you called Skeppshult?

We know—it’s not the easiest name to pronounce. (It’s “Shep-sult,” by the way.) But it’s one we wear with pride. Skeppshult is the name of the small Swedish village where we’ve been making cast iron since 1906. Our founders named the company after their home—and more than a century later, we still cast every piece there, by hand.

Is Skeppshult cast iron nonstick?

Yes—naturally. Every pan is pre-seasoned with organic canola oil. With regular use, the surface becomes increasingly nonstick without any synthetic coatings.

Is Skeppshult cast iron healthy?

Yes. Skeppshult cookware is made from nothing but pure iron and organic canola oil—no synthetic coatings, no chemicals, and nothing artificial. Cast iron can even boost the iron content in your food, a nutrient many of us are low on. It’s one of the few tools in your kitchen that gets better with age—and healthier with use.

Why is Skeppshult cast iron so heavy?

Because it’s built to last—and perform beautifully. Each piece is made with a 5mm thick base, giving you unmatched heat retention, even cooking, and total stovetop stability. It won’t tip, warp, or wobble—ever. That weight? That’s your assurance it’ll be around for decades.

What temperature should I cook at?

Medium heat is best. Cast iron retains heat so well that there’s rarely a need to go high. Let your pan preheat gradually for even, beautiful results.

Stovetop & Oven Compatibility

Can Skeppshult be used on induction cooktops?

Yes. All Skeppshult cookware works on induction, gas, electric, and ceramic cooktops. Our extra-thick base gives excellent contact and stability—especially on induction.

What is induction cooking?

Induction uses magnetic energy to heat your cookware directly—no open flame, no heating element. It’s fast, efficient, and perfect for Skeppshult’s pure iron construction.

Why isn’t the bottom of my pan completely flat?

Skeppshult cookware is designed with a slightly concave base, which flattens as it heats. This clever design protects against warping and ensures even contact on all cooktops—including induction.

Care & Maintenance

Is Skeppshult cast iron hard to maintain?

Not at all. Just rinse with warm water, dry fully, and oil lightly if you like. No soap, no dishwasher. Like leather or wood, it only improves with care and use.

Do I really have to avoid using soap?

Not necessarily. Most of the time, warm water and a soft brush are all you need. But if you want to use a small drop of mild soap, that’s totally fine. Just don’t soak it, and always dry it fully afterward. Your seasoning will bounce back stronger with use.

What should I avoid doing?

Don’t soak your pan. Don’t use harsh detergents or steel wool. And never put it in the dishwasher. Just rinse, dry, and oil—it’s that simple.

Do I need to season my Skeppshult pan?

No. Every piece comes pre-seasoned and ready to use. With regular cooking, the surface improves naturally over time.

If you want to refresh the seasoning, just heat your pan on the stovetop, rub in a light layer of oil, and let it smoke gently for a few minutes. That’s all it takes—no oven needed.

We use natural European walnut—known for its durability, warmth, and sculptural grain. It stays cool during stovetop use and adds a touch of elegance to your kitchen.

Can walnut-handled products go in the oven?

No. Walnut handles are for stovetop use only. They stay cool, offer better grip and safer control, and give the pan a beautifully balanced feel. If you need oven-safe, our Noir Collection features cast iron with matte aluminum handles—made for high-heat versatility.
